New Bill To Create Consortium on the Impact of Technology in Aging Services
This bill is going to be voted on and if passed will create the Consortium on the Impact of Technology in Aging Services. This group will be charged with investigation how new technology can assist aging American's. One of the big goals will be to help people remain independent with the use of technology. This is great news for seniors. Assuming the group doesn't get bogged down in red tape, it should accelerate the pace at which new technological products are developed for seniors.
I hope the organization focuses on more than developing technology specific to seniors such as life alert systems and health monitors. Many of the problems seniors face today have more to do with the fact that many everyday products ignore the needs of seniors. They have too many features, are overly complex and intimidate seniors. More pressure needs to put on manufacturers to recognize that the needs of older Americans when developing products.
The best scenario is that the group achieves both. New products for specific senior issues and an increased awareness for major manufacturers of senior's needs in the product development process. It would be really great to see this bill pass.
